Jhandi Munda

Langur Burja

Six dice carrying symbols instead of numbers: a player names a symbol before the throw, and everything turns on how many dice show it.

Six dice, and their faces carry not numbers but : the four card suits, a crown and a flag. Before the throw everybody names the symbol they are backing — and then all six are thrown at once, and all that remains is to count how often the chosen one came up.

The count is taken literally: one die and the winnings are modest, two and they are larger, three and more larger still. None at all and the bet is lost.

A game of a single action and no decisions after it; the same mechanism is known elsewhere under other names — with three dice rather than six it is chuck-a-luck.

Rules of jhandi munda

What you need

Six symbol dice and a layout marked with the same six symbols.

Bets

Before the throw each player stakes on one or more symbols.

The throw

The dealer throws all six dice at once and announces how many times each symbol came up.

Settling

A bet wins if the chosen symbol came up at all. The more dice it landed on, the larger the payment.

If the symbol came up on none of the dice, the bet is lost.

The next round

Bets are made afresh and it all repeats.

Worth knowing

The exact payouts differ from circle to circle: the general rule is that more matches mean more winnings, and no match at all means a lost bet. The number of players is loose too — two will do, as long as somebody throws.
