Hide-and-Seek
The seeker counts at the home base while everyone hides, and after that it comes down to who reaches the base first — the one who was found or the one who found them.
The rules of sardines
What differs
The roles are inverted: one player hides and all the others seek, and they seek separately.
Play
Everyone shuts their eyes and counts while one player hides. The place has to be one that will take more than a single person.
After that each searches alone. A finder does not announce it: they silently climb into the same hiding place and go quiet.
The hiding place fills up with people as the round goes on — hence the name.
End of the round
The round ends when one seeker is left. They are the hider in the next round.
Worth knowing
A hiding place with room for the whole company is hard to find, so the size of the ground and what counts as fitting in are agreed in advance. Who hides next — the last finder or the previous hider — is likewise local.
Glossary of terms
- Base
- The wall, tree or post the seeker counts at and which both sides later race for.
- Call in
- To reach the base ahead of the player found and say their name. Only this makes a find final.
